The purpose of the HINDI research group is to produce a quantitive and, both geographic and temporally, comparable database on industrialization in Northwestern Europe (England, the Netherlands and Belgium) and China. The focus will be on statistics about employment, production and use of technology. Additionally we will collect statistics on indicators which played a major role on the industrialization process since the 1800s, such as wages, transportation costs and institutional development. As for example transportation costs played a major role in the spread of industrial firms, the construction of GIS maps on administrative boundaries, transport infrastructure and geography will be essential to our research.
As we are currently in the process of processing archival materials and standardizing databases, we are unable to present a standardized dataset as of now yet, with the exception of some preliminary results. In the near future, we hope to present and upload more comprehensive results.
